چکیده

A time harmonic far field model for closed electromagnetic time reversal mirrors is proposed. Then, a limit model corresponding to small perfectly conducting scatterers is derived. This asymptotic model is used to prove the selective focusing properties of the time reversal operator. In particular, a mathematical justification of the DORT method (Decomposition of the Time Reversal Operator method) is given for axially symmetric scatterers.

Selective focusing on small scatterers in acoustic waveguides using time reversal mirrors

We investigate the acoustic selective focusing properties of time reversal in a two-dimensional acoustic waveguide. A far-field model of the problem is proposed in the time-harmonic case. In order to tackle the question of selective focusing, we derive an asymptotic model for small scatterers. We show that in the framework of this limit problem, approximate eigenvectors of the time reversal ope...

Focusing beyond the diffraction limit with far-field time reversal.

We present an approach for subwavelength focusing of microwaves using both a time-reversal mirror placed in the far field and a random distribution of scatterers placed in the near field of the focusing point. The far-field time-reversal mirror is used to build the time-reversed wave field, which interacts with the random medium to regenerate not only the propagating waves but also the evanesce...

Selective Acoustic Focusing Using Time-Harmonic Reversal Mirrors

A mathematical study of the focusing properties of acoustic fields obtained by a time-reversal process is presented. The case of time-harmonic waves propagating in a nondissipative medium containing sound-soft obstacles is considered. In this context, the so-called D.O.R.T. method (decomposition of the time-reversal operator in French) was recently proposed to achieve selective focusing by comp...

A Study of Electromagnetic Radiation from Monopole Antennas on Spherical-Lossy Earth Using the Finite-Difference Time-Domain Method

Radiation from monopole antennas on spherical-lossy earth is analyzed by the finitedifference time-domain (FDTD) method in spherical coordinates. A novel generalized perfectly matched layer (PML) has been developed for the truncation of the lossy soil. For having an accurate modeling with less memory requirements, an efficient "non-uniform" mesh generation scheme is used. Also in each time step...

Optimal Electromagnetic Measurements

We consider the problem of obtaining information about an inaccessible halfspace from electromagnetic measurements made in the accessible half-space. If the measurements are of limited precision, some scatterers will be undetectable because their scattered fields are below the precision of the measuring instrument. How can we make optimal measurements? In other words, what incident fields shoul...
